Purpose of this role

 

The Manager Grants & Funding Partnerships is responsible for managing a team of dedicated Institutional and Trusts & Foundations Fundraisers. Together you are implementing and realising the strategic and operational objectives of creating more funding for the work of Terre des Hommes Netherlands in line with the Resource Mobilisation Strategy 2024-2030.

The position requires an experienced people manager with the creativity and communication skills to package our programmes and technical expertise in ways that attract the right donors to grow our portfolio strategically and sustainably. A change manager who is able to get people along in a changing context and who is keen on process improvements, relationship development and team positioning. The team focus is on fundraising with institutional donors and trust & foundations. This includes identifying and developing new, as well as stewarding and growing existing funding partnerships with Dutch and International institutional donors and foundations. 

The manager has experience and understands the dynamics of operating and implementing programmes in different countries, especially in Asia and Africa. The Manager Grants & Funding Partnerships is responsible with the team for building and optimising our fundraising with the aim of generating more income from a well balanced and healthy portfolio. Together with the team, set up and further develop an active approach for scoping/prospecting, proposal development and grant management. Including working with other (I)NGOs in consortia.

As a project leader, contribute to our CRM/Grant Management system developments and take our data driven working and reporting to the next level.

 

The team

 

Donor stewardship and fundraising activities are developed and executed in close collaboration with the Regional and Country Directors, programme colleagues and substantive experts within the organisation. The Manager Grants & Funding Partnerships reports to the Head of Resource Mobilisation and leads a team of six fundraising experts.

We are a close, international (6 different nationalities) and ambitious team. We have team objectives combined with individual focus areas and we are always ready to work together and support one another. Teamplay, focus and critical thinking is what makes our team work so well. On Mondays we always come together for planning, evaluating, strategising and lunches.

 

Result areas and core activities

 

The Manager Grants & Funding Partnerships is responsible for leading the Grants & Funding Partnerships team and providing guidance on the fundraising policy and activities in order to deliver the multi year Resource Mobilisation Strategy. To do this you will:

  • Drive the funding strategy for Institutions & Multilaterals as well as Trusts & Foundations, with clear focus on agreed goals and targets
  • Build and lead the Grants & Funding Partnerships team, fostering a culture of excellent teamwork. Step in the role of both motivational team coach and mentor as well as the team’s advocate towards the rest of the organisation
  • Improve/optimise work processes and operations
  • Establish strong collaborative relationships across Terre des Hommes Netherlands and the International Federation of member organisations
  • Ensure rigorous research, prospect identification, and network planning 
  • Steward a portfolio of key and high potential donors
  • Develop clear stewardship and solicitation plans for key partnerships in close collaboration with the Head of Resource mobilisation, the Executive Team, Programmes and Communications teams
  • Track donor funding data, create income projections based on a solid pipeline and set goals
  • Develop, manage and improve grant management processes and oversee excellent account management for secured donors
  • Identify, oversee and mitigate the teams risks, as identified in the risk register
  • Manage the team expenditure budget and produce financial reports as required
  • Actively network and visit events
  • Support the development of a solid CRM solution for funding pipeline and donor engagement process

 

Knowledge and experience

 

The ideal candidate will be committed to the mission and vision of Terre des Hommes Netherlands and has a proven track record in fundraising and people management. More specifically:

  • 10+ years experience and proven track record in securing, managing and stewarding multi-year, multi-million grants from institutional donors and foundations, preferably from Dutch, EU and US sources
  • Demonstrable experience of personally securing 6 and 7 figure sum gifts
  • Experienced in developing and implementing a dynamic fundraising strategy
  • A solid network and knowhow of relevant Institutional donors and foundations
  • An entrepreneurial strategic thinker, with the ability to solve problems and manage change processes
  • Proven track record of managing, mentoring and coaching professionals and building strong teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, ability to work independently and in a team
  • Experience in working with other (I)NGO’s in (government-funded) consortia, ideally in an international context or with culturally diverse teams
  • Knowledge of fundraising for a complex, international cause, with a range of varied programmes and shifting strategic priorities
  • The ability to devise and deliver bespoke and engaging fundraising plans and proposals
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and collaborating with staff across different cultures and time zones
  • Proven stakeholder management skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with colleagues, partners and key stakeholders built on trust and respect
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including representing the organisation at events and in-front of donors and partners
  • Fluent in English and Dutch, both verbal and written is essential
  • Having a solid network in the Netherlands within the INGO and donor field, based on long term relationships and strong political and policy knowledge of Dutch and EU contexts
  • Agrees to travel when needed

  • A 1-year contract with the intention to extend to an indefinite contract after 1 year.
  • The salary scale for this job is scale 12 and depending on experience and seniority the salary ranges between €4,323.68 and €5,717.81 gross per month based on a full time (36 hrs) contract
  • We offer a 36 hour contract which in our organisation equals a full time workweek. The pro of this is that one can work 4 x 9 and have one day per week off while still having a full time contract. You may spread the hours over the week matching your preference, in agreement with your manager;
  • We work hybrid, so 50% office and 50% from home. Very flexible and with a positive effect on your work life balance;
  • An office in the thriving heart of The Hague, city of international human rights and political capital.
  • 25 days of paid leave per year on a full time employment basis, if part time, days pro rata;
  • We are a firm supporter of the environment and offer a commuting allowance for the kilometres you’d make by bike or get you a Dutch Railways NS Card;
  • Our pension scheme is with ASR, and Terre des Hommes Netherlands bears the main part of the pension contribution.
