Omschrijving

The School for Moral Ambition (SMA) is a new organisation that will focus on attracting the most talented people to work on the most pressing issues of our time. The activities of SMA fall into the following categories:

  • Book and Branding: Launch of Rutger Bregman’s book on the topic of moral ambition - the idea that people’s talents should be used for working on global challenges. Launch of a corresponding campaign to establish a prestigious brand that attracts talent and sparks a movement around moral ambition.
  • Community Activities: We will organise Moral Ambition Circles and offer the resources to start their own Circle. These circles help morally ambitious people develop a career that matches their ideals.
  • Exclusive Fellowship Programs: Initiation of targeted, highly selective programs in which small groups of fellows (~12 people) will focus on solving one of the most pressing and neglected global problems together.

About the role

The School for Moral Ambition is a rapidly growing non-profit startup with significant scaling potential. As a fundraising professional, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our organization grows in a financially sustainable manner. Together, we aim to eliminate the lack of talent as a barrier to solving global challenges.

To date, our organization has secured a total of 4 million euros in funding. The majority of this comes from committed donations by our founding funders: a close-knit community of morally ambitious entrepreneurs. Additional significant revenue streams include proceeds from Rutgers book sales and grants from supportive foundations.

As the fundraiser for The School for Moral Ambition, you will be responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy. You will actively manage our donor relationships and fundraising activities, with a keen focus on expanding our community of supporters. Your enthusiasm for inviting new members to join our network and organizing exclusive events for them will be essential to our continued success.

You will work closely with the co-founders of the School for Moral Ambition.

Key responsibilities

  • Fundraising strategy: you will develop and implement a fundraising strategy, building on the existing SMA’s philanthropy network and relationships with institutional donors.
  • Relationship building: you will assist with organising relevant events for our network of founding funders and actively grow our institutional donor network.
  • Monitoring and evaluation: you will set up a system to closely monitor, evaluate to continuously improve our fundraising efforts.
  • Writing proposals: you write proposals to (international) foundations based on SMA's strategy

What we’re looking for

  • Passion for the concept of moral ambition
  • Proven (5+ years) experience as a fundraising professional. You are able to put a successful fundraising strategy in place, that you easily transform into an actionable plan. You have delivered many successful funding submissions in the past.
  • Strong network (skills): you have a broad network of philanthropists and institutional donors. You have proven experience in developing new partnerships. Organising special events for this selected group of people is something you love to do.
  • Organised: you take good care of SMA's contact information by saving this well-protected and well-organised.
  • Start-up mindset: you know what an organisation in this phase needs, or are eager to find out.
  • Effective and direct communication: you present information in an understandable way and easily translate ideas, concepts and calculations into appealing plans or presentations.
  • Proactive and solution oriented: you like to think three steps ahead and are eager to point out potential problems and generate solutions before they arise.
  • Teamplayer: you place group results over your individual performance and make time to invest in the learning and growth of your colleagues. When difficulties arise in collaboration, you choose courage over comfort.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. We welcome applicants of all races, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, national origins, disabilities, and other diverse backgrounds.

What we offer

  • A competitive salary: based on experience, the salary ranges between 60K-80K a year based on a 40hr work week.
  • A nice office: with shared lunch to work from.
  • Improving the world together: Colleagues that genuinely care about each other and are exceptionally passionate about improving the world. We are a close-knit team that values having fun and growing together more than most comparable organisations.
  • Growth opportunities: we are an ambitious team that expects a steep growth trajectory and geographical expansion, which means you could grow with us.
  • A lot of fun: as we’ve tried to convey in our founding principles: ‘We’re not driven by feelings of guilt, but by sheer enthusiasm. We’re simply excited about making the world a wildly better place, and about building a legacy that matters.’

Application process

  1. Application form: Please fill out the form and apply before September 15th.
  2. Test task: you will be invited to make a test task that will take you a maximum of 2 hours.
  3. Interview: We’ll invite shortlisted candidates to a 45-minute interview with Julia van Boven, our community director.
  4. Interview with two founding funders: you get to know two of our founding funders
