Senior International Programme Officer

(0,8 – 1,0 fte)

The role

As senior International Program Officer, you will focus on working closely with local partner organizations in designing and implementing structural and humanitarian programs primarily in Africa and Asia. Together with other staff you will be responsible for the design, PME and learning of our programs. At the heart of our work is collaboration with the local church because we believe in the power of the church and its Integral Mission. We as Tearfund also regularly enter into collaborative coalitions within the sector around certain themes or sectors. Think, for example, of cooperation around an acute or chronic humanitarian crisis, or a long-term partnership around peacebuilding or sustainability.

In this position you will maintain good cooperation, relationships and exchange with the Tearfund country offices and partners from the Netherlands. You travel to partner organizations and projects and represent Tearfund to fellow NGOs and to (institutional) donors. You ensure timely and adequate implementation that meets Tearfund quality standards and sponsor expectations and procedures. And you are part of one or more regional teams and possibly project or expertise teams at the organizational level.

In addition, part of your job description may consist of general DMEAL tasks in which you support the organization in formulating results and setting up methods for data collection.

  • Result-oriented and careful: you like to deliver concrete results and are able to motivate your colleagues to take that the extra mile. You are careful and punctual in fulfilling agreements and you able to manage this. You have a proactive attitude and you take initiative in various areas.
  • Team player and networker: you are social and flexible and focused on collaboration. You know your own talents and you also know how to apply these talents with your team members. You build and maintain contact with relevant people outside your own organization.
  • Communicative skills: you can express yourself well orally and in writing. You enjoy working on project proposals and you have empathy for target group-oriented communication.

General qualifications

  • You have HBO+ or academic working and thinking level and preferably completed training in the field of international cooperation;
  • You have at least 5 years of relevant experience in development cooperation and humanitarian aid;
  • You have intercultural sensitivity;
  • You have experience and affinity with project-based work and are able to work self-managing as well as managing a project group team;
  • You have experience in working with, advising and guiding national and local development and humanitarian aid organizations;
  • You have experience in reviewing and monitoring projects remotely;
  • You have affinity with financial project and donor management (budget, reports)

Qualifications specific

You have demonstrable knowledge and experience in one or more of these subjects:

  • Institutional donors (MoFA, EU, etc.);
  • Setting up and managing coalitions and alliances around specific themes or sectors;
  • Supporting and strengthening projects and processes initiated by local and national partner organizations in Africa, Latin America and Asia.
  • Experience in guiding and advising on DMEAL;
  • Working with local and national faith-based actors to enable them to bring transformation for local communities and society as a whole.
